Owner

Contact details stay private. Public records never show your name, email or phone.

Vehicle

Your VIN is encrypted in production and used only to detect duplicates — it is never published, and never appears in links or email.

VIN plate, odometer reading and vehicle registration documents
Your VIN is on the door-jamb plate, dash plate, registration and insurance card.

Purchase & ownership

Ownership history matters to goodwill decisions — record it precisely.

Symptoms

Describe what you observed, in order. Uneven cooling — driver side cold, passenger side warm — is the most reported first sign.

Diagnosis

A written diagnosis naming the leak location is the strongest single document you can add.

Electronic refrigerant detector probing a dashboard vent
Ask for the detector's response location in writing — "at the evaporator" matters.

Repair

Estimates count even if you haven't repaired yet — the quote itself is evidence.

Warranty & goodwill

Record offers exactly as made — percentages, conditions and dates. This feeds the Customer Care Outcomes dataset.

Expenses

The true cost includes everything around the repair — recharges, rentals, missed use.

Estimates, invoices and receipts spread beside a calculator
Keep every receipt — recharge invoices document the recurrence pattern.

BMW & dealer communications

Written communications become documents. Oral statements are recorded as "owner-reported oral statements" — never as manufacturer documentation.

Documents

Check what you have. In production these upload to private, hashed storage; for this prototype, email copies to bmw@autodefect.org after submitting.

Owner photographing the exposed HVAC assembly while completing a defect report
Photograph the work while the dash is open — you may not get a second chance.

Prior proceedings

This keeps the dataset clean and avoids conflicts.

Sharing & publication

Nothing is published without your consent. Public records are sanitized — no name, contact details or full VIN — and documents appear only as redacted copies you approve.

Optional consents are never pre-checked and can be withdrawn at any time. This Registry is not a law firm. Submission does not create an attorney-client relationship, guarantee legal representation, guarantee recovery, or suspend any legal deadline.
