EVIDENCE CLASSIFICATION
Each record carries exactly one status. The grade describes the strength of the documentation — not how serious the failure was, and not whether the owner is believed. Levels are never combined in public totals without labeling.
Written diagnosis identifying the HVAC evaporator, plus a final invoice showing evaporator replacement.
Written diagnostic report identifying the HVAC evaporator; repair may be pending or declined. The founder case is currently Level B.
Written estimate identifying evaporator replacement, plus a supporting leak-test record or technician documentation.
Owner narrative without sufficient documentary confirmation.
The AC complaint was ultimately attributed to a component other than the evaporator — condenser, compressor, service port, refrigerant line, or blend-door/IHKA.
Received and awaiting manual review; not yet graded or published.
Substantially identical submission connected to an existing record — never double-counted.
A material factual aspect has been challenged and is under review; the record is labeled while open.
Fabricated, abusive, nonresponsive, unverifiable, or outside project scope. Never enters the public table.
CLASSIFICATION PRINCIPLES
Driver-side-cold / passenger-side-warm airflow is a common evaporator symptom — and also a symptom of condenser leaks, compressor faults, service-port leaks, line leaks, and blend-door failures. An entry is classified by what the diagnostic paperwork shows, never by vent temperatures alone.
The Registry collects warranty-paid, goodwill-paid, and owner-paid results alike, including cases resolved entirely by BMW. A registry that only recorded bad outcomes could not demonstrate a pattern — or its absence.
Records state what documents show, in their own terms. A pending goodwill review is reported as pending — never as a denial. The Registry's strongest permissible claim: verified submissions raise questions about whether premature HVAC evaporator failures may recur within certain models or production periods. It has not established a manufacturer-wide failure rate or common engineering cause.
This Registry concerns the air-conditioning (HVAC) evaporator core behind the dashboard — not the emissions-system "EVAP" component. Where a source document says "EVAP," the Registry records the exact wording and which system was actually meant.
WHAT A SUBMISSION COLLECTS
The submission form collects five groups of facts, so a complete case arrives structured rather than as a free-text complaint.
VERIFICATION & ABUSE CONTROLS
A public registry is only as credible as its resistance to junk data. Before anything reaches the public table:
